To develop practitioners' knowledge of principles, terminology and practice related to observation, assessment and Next Steps. • To understand the planning cycle and the rationale of observing, documenting and assessing children's learning and consider the role of the practitioner in this cycle; • To explore different methods of observation, and ways of recording and documenting; • To understand the notions of assessment of learning and assessment for learning and consider how we assess children’s learning through observations; • To gain confidence in planning next steps for children’s learning; • To make links between observations, next steps and future planning and share practice with other practitioners.
